Burkina Faso Arrests Several Military Officers Amid Coup Rumors

Several military officers in Burkina Faso have been arrested and at least two have been relieved of their command roles, amid speculation of a possible coup attempt.

The arrests, which took place last week, have not been officially confirmed by the government or military authorities. However, sources close to the matter say the officers were detained due to suspected links to a potential coup plot.

Among those arrested are Magistrate Commander Frédéric Ouédraogo, former commander of the Military Justice Battalion, and Captain Elysée Tassembedo, commander of the Groupement des forces de sécurisation du secteur nord.

The reasons for the arrests are unclear, but sources suggest they might be linked to an investigation into the death of Commander Ismaël Touhogobou, who was suspected of involvement in a previous coup attempt.

The situation within the military remains tense, with supporters of the junta speculating about another coup attempt. Some point to exiled military personnel as potential suspects.

The government has not made any official statements about the arrests or the alleged coup plot.
