Biya’s ruling CPDM in turmoil as Court Case begins

The Yaoundé Administrative Court convened on Thursday April 10, 2025 for an initial session in the case brought by Leon Theiller Onana, a municipal councilor and member of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM).

Onana is seeking the appointment of an ad hoc committee to oversee the organization of a Congress within the CPDM, a move that could potentially alter the party’s leadership dynamics. The plaintiff’s advocate, Gueyo Kamga Guy Leonard, presented evidence to support Onana’s claim, while the CPDM’s lawyers, including Barrister Louis Eyangoh, Kangue Ndong Ntah Xaverine, and Alima Marcus, submitted their conclusions. The court has scheduled the next session for April 17, when further proceedings will take place. This case is significant as it highlights internal conflicts within the CPDM, which has been in power for decades.

The court’s decision will be closely watched by observers, who are eager to see how the case unfolds and what impact it may have on the CPDM’s internal dynamics. The party’s ability to manage its internal conflicts and adapt to changing circumstances will be crucial in determining its future success.

Leon Theiller Onana has already received a query letter from the Mayor of Monatélé accusing him of absenteeism. Responding to the letter, the Municipal Council warned against witch-hunting, wondering why this is happening only now.

However, he promised to leave no stone unturned for legality to reign within the ruling CPDM.
