Taa Nformi Emmanuel Kongnyu, a prominent figure in the Mbum community, was honored with the “Wimbum International Culture Advocate Luminary Award” at the 2025 Vanguard Media Group (VAMEG) International Icon Awards on Saturday. The ceremony, held in Bafoussam, recognized his decades-long commitment to preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the Mbum people.
Kongnyu’s efforts have been instrumental in safeguarding traditional practices, fostering community cohesion, and advocating for the inclusion of indigenous cultures in national discourse. His work has not only preserved the rich heritage of the Mbum people but also inspired younger generations to embrace and celebrate their cultural identity.

“Taa Nformi EK is a personality within the inner circles of the Mbum military arm, the Nfuh society,” said Dr. Budzih Blaise, a Mbum historian. “He has succeeded in redefining mobility and titleship in Mbum land.”
Taa Nformi Ndamnsa Blaise added, “Taa Nformi EK is a man of integrity. When we talk about the Mbum culture, he is a reference person. Together with other leaders, he has created a platform of more than 12,000 Winbum people where they conduct extensive research.”
The VAMEG International Icon Awards aim to honor those who have made great contributions to nation-building. EK’s recognition comes to appreciate the vital role of cultural custodians in shaping a cohesive national and Pan African identity.
