NCC Meets Sanctioned TV Channels, Warns Against Replacing Banned Programs with Similar Concepts

On Thursday, April 3, a meeting was held between the National Communication Council (NCC) and representatives of TV channels recently sanctioned by the Council. The session aimed to clarify the reasons behind the suspension of programs and reinforce the importance of adhering to the sanctions.

During the meeting, media proprietors expressed concerns over the impact of the sanctions on their audience, particularly the suspension of key shows. In previous meetings, owners of audiovisual outlets had suggested that the NCC target specific programs or staff, rather than imposing sanctions on entire channels.

In response, NCC President Joe Chebonkeng Kalabubsu cautioned the proprietors that replacing banned programs with similar content could prompt further action from the Council.

The discussion also provided an opportunity for channel owners to share their challenges. The meeting ended on a positive note, with both parties agreeing to foster improved collaboration moving forward.
